artmark. is an association formed by the students of ATCM.
A new Masters’ Degree Programme at Helsinki University, and a field of specialization, at the time at Helsinki School of Economics, now the new Aalto University School of Economics, called ATCM began in September 2009. ATCM is an abbreviation of Art Theory Criticism and Management. The programme is joint and it combines students from both Universities, even though the status of the programme is different in the two Universities. The courses are held in both Universities, but the students graduate and get a certificate from only one University, HY or HSE, not both. ATCM has, at least so far, been mainly about arts management and marketing, or so we students of the programme see it.
There are 18 of us ATCM students at the moment and new students for next fall are now applying for the programme. We are all from very different backgrounds; about half of us are Finnish and the other half from different countries from Europe to Canada and South Korea. Students from the Aalto University School of Economics (8 persons) have the background of being Bachelors of Science in Economics and Business Administration, and students from the Helsinki University side (10) are Bachelors or even Masters in a variety of arts related degrees.
To us it seemed important to have a student association of our own, because half of us belong to AYY (Aalto University Student Union) and half to HYY (Student Union of the University of Helsinki) and there is really nothing connecting us officially, except the ATCM studies. However we enjoy each others’ company and have some similar interests, thus it seemed like a good idea to found an association so we could arrange events, raise some funds etc. – officially.
We will apply for the membership of the Student Unions as a group later on in the summer as we get our operations in order first. Are you interested in joining us? You can join artmark. by sending us your first and last names, a functioning email and hometown to atcm.artmark(a)gmail.com –note that you need to be a member of either HYY or AYY.
